Yes. Vegemite. I don’t care what Australians say. That stuff isn’t food.

I’ve never run out of food, but while on an American research ship for a month we ran out of decent tea. This, for me, was probably worse than running out of food!

No but I always ask often myself what I would start by eating if I was locked in the lab for a long time (Is there something wrong with me?) And I think I would start with the drosophila food, I mean after all if the flies are eating it it can’t be that bad. Then I would go onto eating the Luria Agar which is what we grow the bacteria on, :S I am really hoping never to start thinking about eating my very very precious krill!!

I’ve never run out totally, but at the end of a 6-week cruise the range of food available can be quite limited. At the end of my last cruise we had no fruit or vegetables (OK, that might sound good to you, but you try eating nothing but pasta and potatoes for dinner for a couple of weeks), no cheese, no yoghurt, no wine, no Nutella (help!)…When we got into port and wen out for a meal there was some parsely in the food and it tasted like heaven. I’ve had a soft spot for parsely ever since.
