Hi Emily, Rash, and Katie – for fun! Truly. I try to do fun things for a living – so that way, my life feels like a continuous holiday. One of my top memories – I have really good memories of late nights in the lab – after everyone else had left – just me, a very loud stereo playing Metallica (which is the best music to listen to when you’re doing DNA extractions at 1am, let me tell you), and lots and lots of fish guts. 🙂

      Hey Emily,

I’m not sure I ever really ‘decided’ to become a scientist! I really liked science at school, and I just kept doing it through university and then another university – and eventually found that I was a scientist. I’m certainly glad it happened, though!

Top memory: Probably being surrounded by icebergs on a ship on a beautifully sunny day, or perhaps when I found out that my first study had been published – that’s a big moment for any scientist!

Is this question only intended for Dave?

I know this question isn’t for me, but I’d agree with Dave. I go for sitting at the bottom of the Arabian Sea in a submarine eating sandwiches (Japanese sandwiches, cut very straight, and filled with jam) and drinking coffee from a thermos. Just like being on the top of a mountain, but, bizzarely, at the bottom of the sea!
