It feels great! It makes me look afresh at what I do, and helps me to see how lucky I am to be doing it. I also hope that I allow other people to see how enjoyable it is so that they might try it too.

I love talking about my job! Especially to people who work in a similar but different subject, as they often have great advice form seeing problems from a different angle. I also love talking about my job and science in general to anyone who doesn’t (yet!) do science – I’d love to think maybe I could inspire someone to rake up science!

I really enjoy it, as it makes me realise how lucky I am to do something I love and if someone (like you guys) gets curious about marine science through me telling them about it then even better!

I really love science. I get really happy to talk with people and help them find the excitement in the world around them. For example, the other day I was out at a birthday party, and somehow, teratomas came up. Now teratomas are WICKED COOL!!! (to look at, not to have) and, of course, I just got giddy at the idea. But, no one around me knew what a teratoma was – so I got to explain using the various bits and pieces around the dinner table. Teratomas are tumors that have ‘carryover’ cells from when you’re an embryo. What makes them so wild is that they can grow hair, and teeth, and sometimes even organs!!! Talk about a weird looking thing to cut into! Check out these pictures: (with hair!)
      (with teeth!)
      (just mayhem!)

So – yeah – I think the world is an amazing place and any time I get to talk about that and share that – I’m happy!
