Woah! 1st question of the day and it’s a belter! Hmm. I can think of a lot of things but I don’t think 1 hour would be enough! Hmmm. I’m quite interested in how various different reefs within an area are connected to one another through the flow of currents. What I would love to do is be able to see the pattern of current between reefs and then see if we can use this network to work out why some reefs are healthier than others and why some recover from bleaching or other stresses whilst others don’t, even if they’re less than a few miles apart… I’d definitely need more than an hour for that though…

I think it would have to be a human, a fellow chronobiologist who knows more than me, I could then try to learn as much as possible from him or her in 1 hour!

If I could shrink myself down to the microscopic level and crawl inside an octopus – so that I could see how the venom flows from the venom gland to the beak – that would be really, really useful. Any suggestions on how I can do that?

I guess I’d need to be a grain of mud, to see how it is cycled on the seafloor, and what happens when it is eaten by a worm!

I’d love spend an hour at sea in the middle of a hurricane of typhoon! Ok, this would probably be a bit too dangerous, and I’d almost certainly be scared witless – but it would be great to see first hand what I’m trying to study, rather than just relying on the data that our instruments collect. Also, it’s one of the few things I can think of where an hour would seem like more than enough time!
