My deepest submarine dive was 1140 m in the Arabian Sea. Quite deep, but nowhere near as deep as the sub can go (6500 m). The site we were at had very little oxygen in the water, so i was not expecting that much life, however I was luck and there were wuite a lot of animals that were specially adapted to living in low oxygen conditions.

Sooooo jealous of Clare on this answer! I’ve been down to 44 meters. It was insanely quiet and beautiful and we were surrounded by sharks in a giant collapsed cave system.

The deepest I’ve dived is somewhere between 30 and 40 metres. Unfortunately we landed on silt, so as soon as it got disturbed we couldn’t see anything!

I’ve never been under water!! (Apart from putting my head under the water to get pebbles from the bottom of the sea! 2m?) As I keep saying I am not really a marine biologist, more a molecular biologist who happens to be working on a marine organism. We catch the krill we work on using nets, no diving involved! I would have loved to be able to dive and/or go under the water with a submarine though must be really amazing!

Alas, I have only dived to around 30m! Coral reefs tend to get less interesting the deeper you go really. Coral reefs tend to display the greatest amount of life in shallower waters and as you go deeper, the number of corals that are adapted to living in lower light conditions changes.
