Ooh, good one. There are some pretty dangerous places in Madagascar. I’ve never visited them though. Underwater, I try not to go into any place or situation that could be considered dangerous as if something goes wrong when you’re diving, it can be very hard to put right or get treatment in time should you injure yourself. SCUBA diversn have to be very safety conscious.

That being said, Once I very very nearly got stung by a Scorpionfish when tying a piece of tape measure onto a rock in order to do a survey. Turns out it wasn’t a rock and was in fact a very well camouflaged and extremely dangerous fish instead! I only found out once it swam out from under my hand. Since then, I’ve ALWAYS double checked before tying off on something underwater…

Tricky!. As a child I used to go camping when I lived in africa, and sometimes we could hear lions or hippos just outside the tent – but I was quite young and don’t remember it very well.

As an adult – probably deep underground somewhere! I used to do a lot of caving and on occasion could get into some slightly hairy situations!

I once ended up in the middle of a war zone. I really didn’t have a clue just how dangerous a situation I had gotten myself into until quite a bit later. There was one point, when we were about to be stopped at a checkpoint, that I thought – well – this is it then – I’m about to spend the rest of my most likely short life in a prison. For reasons that I didn’t figure out until years later, (mainly that it turns out I was most likely in the car of an arms dealer), the checkpoint guard waved us through without stopping. Had we been stopped – I’m fairly certain I wouldn’t be typing this to you now. The morning I finally managed to get out of that country, I sent mother a postcard. It says, “You’ll be glad to know that by the time you get this, I will be far, far away from the place I shouldn’t have been in the first place.” I’m glad I did all of my REALLY stupidly dangerous travelling before I realized how incredibly stupidly dangerous it was.
