Failing. No one wants to be bad at something – so – I was (and sometimes am still) scared of failing and looking like a complete idiot. The problem is, of course, that failure is a really, really important part of learning. I have to remind myself of that when I get scared and don’t want to ask questions. I can use protective equipment and gear to keep myself safe from the animals, but I have to be willing to risk my pride to admit I don’t know something. It’s such an important lesson, I wish I had learned it when I was kid! So – Kierastoney – if you can learn to fail and still get back up, brush yourself off, and keep going – the world is your pearl oyster!
How about you? What are you scared of in your future?
I remember having to write essays for my university entrance exams – that can definitely be very daunting. Practice, practice, practice – I found that takes some of the edge off. Firefighting is an AWESOME job! I have friends who are firefighters. Are you doing lots of physical training? You’ve got to be superfit to get that job!
